Bratislava, October 14, 2025 – The University of Economics in Bratislava commemorated the 85th anniversary of its founding with a ceremonial gathering of the academic community. The event was marked by a spirit of respect for history, recognition of exceptional achievements, and strengthening of cooperation between the academic community and the professional world.

On the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Higher School of Commerce (now the University of Economics in Bratislava), the university’s rector, Prof. Ing. Ferdinand Daňo, PhD, presented awards to colleagues, students, and prominent partners from the business sector for their contributions to the development and enrichment of the university’s academic culture. The recipients received awards in three categories.

With the “Award for Contributions to the Development of Cooperation with the Business Sector,” the university expressed its gratitude for long-term support of education, research, and the professional growth of students through internships, projects, and joint initiatives carried out at companies in Slovakia. The award was presented to nominees from the Faculty of Business Management:

  • Jaroslav HABO - Member of the Board of Directors and Director of the Foreign Branch of UniCredit Bank Czech Republic and Slovakia, a.s.
  • Peter RUSIŇÁK - Deputy Director – Policy & Advocacy, AmCham Slovakia

As part of the ceremonial session, the prestigious “Award for Exceptional Contribution to the Development of Academic Self-Governance, Support for the Academic Community, and Active Cooperation” was also presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to fostering a democratic and inclusive environment at the university. From the Faculty of Business Management, this award was presented to Prof. Ing. Helena Majdúchová, CSc., Chair of the Academic Senate of the University of Economics in Bratislava.

With this award, the Rector of the University of Economics in Bratislava expressed his respect and gratitude for their many years of academic work at the Faculty of Business Management to former deans Prof. Ing. Ľuboslav Szabo, CSc., Prof. Ing. Karol Zalai, CSc., and Dr.h.c. Prof. Ing. Peter Markovič, PhD., DBA, and the current Dean, Assoc. Prof. Ing. Anita Romanová, PhD.

Special attention was also given to students who achieved exceptional results in sports. They were presented with the “Award for Extraordinary Sporting Achievements,” through which the university highlighted the importance of a balance between academic and personal development. The Faculty of Business Management was represented by student Róbert RIPPEL, who serves as captain of the university’s sports teams, has long bridged the gap between sports and the academic environment, and serves as a role model for his classmates.

In his speech, the rector of the University of Economics in Bratislava emphasized the importance of tradition, innovation, and collaboration as the pillars upon which the university is building its future. “Our university is not only a place of learning, but also a space where values are formed that transcend academic boundaries,” he said.

The 85th-anniversary celebrations served as a fitting tribute to the university’s rich heritage and, at the same time, a call to action for the years ahead, filled with innovation, partnerships, and success.
