The Faculty of Business Management at the University of Economics in Bratislava (FPM) has long been developing a unique teaching model that bridges the academic environment with real-world business practice.
Through elective courses led by experts from the corporate sector, students gain experience, knowledge, and competencies directly from professionals active in the international business environment.
Business Attributes in Foreign Practice
This course is unique due to its direct link to diplomatic practice and foreign trade missions. It is conducted in close cooperation with the diplomatic missions of the Slovak Republic, offering students an authentic perspective on doing business both within and outside the European Union.
Students acquire fundamental knowledge regarding:
- doing business within the EU, including the Union's economic characteristics and key policies,
- business conditions in individual member states,
- an overview of opportunities for Slovak enterprises to expand their business activities abroad.
The content includes economic issues, tax and social policy, consumer protection, environmental issues, financing and foreign and security policy with a focus on economics. Thanks to the involvement of ambassadors and diplomats, students discuss the real challenges of foreign business, legislative frameworks and specificities of individual markets.
Corporate Controlling at ESET s.r.o.
The subject represents one of the most representative examples of linking university education with international business practice. It is implemented directly in the corporate environment of ESET - a globally successful Slovak technology company.
Students gain:
- a comprehensive view of corporate controlling,
- practical problem solving in the field of management reporting, planning and budgeting,
- experience in creating reports, analyses and proposals for measures in case of deviations from the plan,
- the opportunity to work with real data sources of an international corporation.
The course content-wise addresses issues such as financial and sales controlling; transfer pricing and tax policy within a global group; consolidated financial statements according to IFRS; CSR controlling and integrated reporting. Students also benefit from the fact that the course is led by experienced controllers, managers and financial experts directly from ESET, which gives it high practical value.
Financial Management of a Company – Case Studies
(partner Slovak Association of Financiers – SAF)
This course is purely practically oriented and is based on case studies from the field of financial management, prepared by experts working in the fields of finance, banking, insurance and financial consulting.
Students will gain:
- skills to analyze financial indicators of a company,
- experience with financial planning, risk assessment and decision-making processes,
- practical knowledge of digital technologies in finance, cybersecurity or AML,
- insight into the practice of debt collection, electronic invoicing or corporate risk insurance.
Each case study requires active participation of students and solving specific problem situations—as financial managers in a real company would solve them.
