The end of June was marked by a festive atmosphere at the Faculty of Business Management at the University of Economics in Bratislava.
During a ceremonial meeting of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Business Management, awards were presented to selected individuals who, through their long-standing service, expertise, and personal dedication, have significantly contributed to the development of the faculty and the university, enriched academic life, and left a lasting mark on professional practice.
The awards were presented on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of our university’s founding by the rector of the University of Economics in Bratislava, Prof. Ing. Ferdinand Daňo, PhD. acting on behalf of the Dean of the Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Ing. Anita Romanová, PhD., as an expression of recognition and gratitude for their extraordinary contributions to enhancing the quality of higher education, advancing scientific and research activities, strengthening academic self-governance, and fostering collaboration with the professional community.
The festive atmosphere of the event served as a reminder that behind the success of every institution are people who devote their expertise, experience, energy, and often their entire professional lives to it. The honorees have made significant contributions to the development of academic programs, led departments, faculties, or university bodies, shaped the professional direction of their departments, and educated generations of successful graduates.
The awards were presented to:
Doc. Ing. Gizela Lénártová, PhD., who, during her many years of service as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Business Management and later as Vice Rector of the University of Economics in Bratislava, contributed significantly to the development of international relations, the expansion of international cooperation, and the strengthening of the international standing of both the faculty and the university.
Doc. Ing. Mojmír Kokles, PhD. Throughout his long academic career, he played a key role in the development of business informatics and information management at the Faculty of Business Management; from 2001 to 2020, he headed the Department of Information Management and contributed significantly to shaping its academic focus and study programs.
Prof. Ing. Andrej Dupaľ, CSc. Throughout his academic career, he made significant contributions to the development of both the Faculty of Business Management and the University of Economics in Bratislava as chair of the academic senates and as the long-time head of the Department of Production Management and Logistics. Under his leadership, the department became the first in Slovakia to obtain the ISO 9001:2000 quality certificate, thereby becoming a pioneer in the field of quality management in higher education.
Prof. Ing. Štefan Majtán, PhD. Through his work at the faculty, he made a significant contribution to the development of scientific and research activities, as well as doctoral education, in his role as vice-rector for science and doctoral studies. He was the long-time head of the Department of Business Administration. The academic community recognized his professional contributions by awarding him the honorary title of professor emeritus in 2024.
Prof. Ing. Štefan Slávik, CSc., headed the Department of Management for more than two decades and played a significant role in the development of management education, scientific and research activities, and academic cooperation both at home and abroad. Through his professional expertise, he contributed to the functioning of scientific councils, doctoral education, and the nonprofit sector, while consistently bridging the gap between academia and professional practice.
Ing. Žofia Dunová has been working at the Faculty of Business Management for more than fifty years, playing a significant role in ensuring the smooth operation of the faculty and creating a stable administrative foundation for its development. In her role as secretary, she has significantly contributed to the effective functioning of the faculty and the support of its academic activities through her professionalism, experience, and dedication.
On this occasion, the dean of the Faculty of Business Management, Assoc. Prof. Ing. Anita Romanová, PhD, addressed those present. “Today we are honoring people who, for decades, have passed on their knowledge to students, shaped study programs, led departments, faculties, and university bodies, advanced scientific and research activities, and, through their work, built the reputation of the Faculty of Business Management and the University of Economics in Bratislava.”
“This award, therefore, is not merely a formal expression of gratitude. It is a token of respect for years of work, for the generations of graduates you have mentored, for your professional contributions, for your loyalty to the faculty, and for the values you have passed on to your colleagues and students through your work,” the dean emphasized, noting that the award represents much more than just a symbolic gesture.
Through their many years of work, the honorees have left a significant mark not only on the Faculty of Business Management but also in the broader academic and social spheres. Their work has contributed to the development of management education, research projects, international collaboration, scholarly publications, and the establishment of partnerships with the business community.
The awards ceremony also served as an opportunity to thank all faculty members, researchers, and experts who have long contributed to fulfilling the university’s mission and to the development of future generations of managers, leaders, and entrepreneurs.
The Faculty of Business Management values the work and legacy of all the award recipients and thanks them for their professionalism, dedication, and significant contribution to building the values upon which high-quality higher education and the entire academic community are founded. Their personal and professional stories continue to serve as an inspiration for current students, faculty, and future generations of the academic community.
