Dear students, Dear colleagues!
The start of a new academic year is always a time when we look back on what we have achieved together, whilst also reflecting on what we wish to achieve together in the coming months. We are building on what we have already established, whilst also opening our doors to new students, new ideas and new opportunities.
It is therefore with particular pleasure that I welcome the first-year students, who are joining the academic community of the Faculty of Business Management at the University of Economics in Bratislava for the first time. I hope that during your studies you will find not only a high-quality education, but also inspiring lecturers, good friends and the courage to explore new possibilities.
We live in an era when the world is changing faster than ever before. Digitalisation, artificial intelligence, technological innovations and society’s changing expectations are fundamentally influencing the way we work, do business and manage organisations. In such an environment, it is no longer enough simply to acquire new knowledge.
It is more important to learn how to think.
To understand the bigger picture. To ask the right questions. To make responsible decisions. To know how to collaborate, to engage in lifelong learning, and to embrace change as a natural part of both professional and personal development.
This is precisely where I see the true mission of university education.
At the Faculty of Business Management, we aim to prepare graduates who will not only be experts in their field, but also responsible leaders capable of creating value for organisations and society. That is why we are developing study programmes, strengthening our collaboration with the business world, promoting international education, and creating an environment that combines high-quality teaching, research and practical experience.
The new academic year also brings further steps in this direction. In collaboration with the Slovak University of Technology, we are launching new joint degree programmes focusing on economics and management in the energy sector and on management in the nuclear energy sector. At the same time, we are expanding our range of programmes to include a professionally oriented study programme in property management, which has been developed in close collaboration with the industry. We believe that it is precisely the integration of economics, management, technology and the needs of the industry that is the path to modern management education.
Quality is equally important to us. Not as a one-off goal, but as a daily commitment. We view the international evaluation of our faculty as part of the AMBA accreditation process – for which we are applying – and our membership of the Business Graduates Association, first and foremost, as confirmation that we are on the right track and, at the same time, as a commitment to constantly raising the standard of education, research and collaboration with the industry.
Dear students,
Make the most of the opportunities that university life has to offer. Ask questions, engage in discussion, get involved in projects, gain experience abroad, collaborate with professionals in the field, and stay curious. It is precisely these experiences that often shape a person just as much as the knowledge gained in lectures.
My sincere thanks go to all the faculty staff. I am convinced that the quality of an academic institution is shaped above all by its people – their expertise, professionalism, mutual respect and willingness to collaborate. Our faculty’s achievements are not the result of the work of individuals. They are the result of the joint efforts of students, lecturers, research and specialist staff, graduates and partners from the professional world. Each of them contributes in their own way to making our faculty what it is today.
At the start of the new academic year, I wish you all plenty of energy, courage, creativity and the joy of discovering new knowledge. May this year be a time of new opportunities, inspiration and collaboration.
I am confident that, together, we will continue to build a faculty founded on quality, openness, collaboration and responsibility. A faculty that prepares graduates capable of thinking in a holistic manner, making responsible decisions and positively influencing both organisations and society.
I wish us all a successful academic year 2026/2027.
doc. Ing. Anita Romanová, PhD.
