For 13 years now, the Faculty of Business Management at the University of Economics in Bratislava has been offering a unique elective course titled “Corporate Controlling,” which represents an exceptional integration of academic education with business practice. The course is the result of a long-term collaboration between the faculty and ESET, spol. s r. o., which is headquartered in Bratislava’s Aupark Tower and operates in more than 200 countries and territories.
What makes it unique is that second-year students in the second cycle of study complete part of their coursework directly within a major Slovak technology company. This allows them to learn about controlling not only as a financial management tool, but also as an important component of modern, ethical, and sustainable management.
ESET is also one of the active leaders in the field of sustainability. In its annual reports, the company has announced the development of a global ESG strategy through 2030 and the implementation of ESG reporting inspired by the European ESRS standards, which makes this collaboration particularly timely and inspiring.
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with a practice-oriented corporate controlling system as applied within a Slovak multinational corporation. The course focuses on understanding its role in financial management, managerial decision-making, reporting, and sustainability.
The course content reflects real-world professional needs and includes, in particular:
- Controlling in an international corporation
- Management accounting and reporting
- Planning and budgeting
- Financial controlling and accounts receivable management
- Transfer pricing and tax policy
- Consolidated financial statements in accordance with IFRS
- ESG and integrated reporting
The exceptional value of this course is provided by industry experts who share their firsthand experience in managing a multinational corporation with the students.
